Sobenin² ¹Nano Invest, Moscow, Russia ²Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (State University), Moscow, Russia Abstract The compact electron linac RELUS-5 was developed for radiation investigation of material modification. The experience of the standing wave electron accelerator building starting since first in the USSR standing wave electron linac RELUS-1 in 1978 [1] were used. Electron energy range is from 3 to 5 MeV. Pulse length is from 3 to 6 μsec. Average power of accelerated beam is up to 1 kW. The main task of submitted work is to build simple and cheap applied electron linac and to show how to do it. ª – corresponding author |

SOLID STATE MODULATOR FOR LINEAR ACCELERATORS |

D. Churanov, A. Krasnov, M. Urbant, A. Zavadtsevª, D. Zavadtsev Nano Invest, Moscow, Russia Abstract Compact solid state modulator is developed, assembled and tested. The modulator is designed for use in compact electron linac RELUS-5 to feed pulse mode magnetron and electron gun. Main parameters of the modulator are: peak voltage 50 kV, peak current 100 A, pulse length 0÷6 μs, rise and fall time 0.5 μs, output power up to 10 kW. The whole modulator is located inside the oil tank with overall dimensions 88×84×95 cm. Special circuit allows to correct the droop of the pulse and to vary the pulse length in wide range. Modular type design allows to use it as a base for the building of another modulators with higher peak voltage up to 150÷300 kV as well as with higher peak current up to 300 A. ª – corresponding author |
