Production of 800 superconducting cavities for XFEL at industry is the largest in the cavity history action. The preparation phase for the European XFEL cavity production was finished 2010. It included a number of activities: qualification of high purity niobium vendors; cavity design; integration of the helium tank and cavity into the fabrication sequence, qualification of preparation sequences, documentation and data transfer, etc. About 50 prototype cavities are produced at the industry, treated and RF-tested at DESY. The XFEL requirements of 23.6 MV/m are fulfilled with a yield of approx. 90%. Production of 600 cavities is currently contracted on principle "build to print" at two companies: Research Instruments in Germany and E. Zanon in Italy. Production has to follow precisely the in detail worked out specifications. Additionally 240 cavities will be allocated end of 2012. DESY procured the cavity superconducting material and 50% of the titanium helium tanks. A new infrastructure for XFEL cavity treatment is created by the contracted companies for cavity production. Qualifications of infrastructure caries out on base of dummy and reference cavities build by vendors. Supervision of the vendors work is executed in collaboration by DESY and INFN (Milano) team. Ca. 50 cavities will be mechanically fabricated and treated at the industry until end of 2012.

Ca. 20 t. of high purity niobium for European XFEL superconducting resonators will be provided by DESY to the cavity producers. Work on material for XFEL cavities is divided into three phases (prototyping, pre-series and series production). Procurement of material as semi-finished products for serial XFEL cavities includes: incoming dimensional control, eddy current scanning of the sheets, testing for required parameters (RRR, interstitial impurity analysis, metallic impurities analysis, metallography, tensile test, hardness, dimensional check and surface roughness), documentation using the DESY EDMS and delivery to companies. Material for 800 cavities is contracted to four previously qualified companies (Ningxia OTIC, Plansee Metal GmbH, Tokyo Denkai and W.C. Heraeus). Appropriate infrastructure and logistic for guiding through more than 20.000 of semi-finished products have been build up and the work flow worked out. More than 50% of cavity material is delivered to cavities vendors up to now. Niobium sheets with flaws, detected by eddy current scanning, sorted out and checked for foreign material inclusions and another sorts of defects. Several type of foreign material detected, a feedback is given to companies.
