NICA Collider Radiation Shielding Simulation by the GEANT4 Code
|
||
The main radiation component behind the NICA collider shielding and in the environment are neutrons with wide energy range. At the NICA сollider several locations a high level of secondary neutron production can be expected: the ion beam transport channel between the Nuclotron and the collider, the ion collider rings and the ion beam catchers. These radiation sources have different causes and features. The crucial problem for the NICA radiation shielding design is the correct simulation of double differential secondary neutron productions at 4.5 GeV/n 197Au ion interactions with targets (source term problem). The modeling of secondary neutron radiation sources have been performed by the GEANT4 MC code. On the base of it the preliminary estimation of the necessary radiation shielding was done by the simplified engineering method. Subsequently the detailed MC simulation of the radiation situation at the NICA collider was done by GEANT4 code for the verification of the preliminary shielding calculation. Also, the induced radioactivity of the collider equipment was predicted based on the collider schedule.
