Low energy cooler for NICA project is being currently designed at BINP in collaboration with JINR. From the point of view of its features it is similar to previous low energy coolers manufactured at BINP, i.e. equipped with variable electron beam, electrostatic bending, high precision solenoid etc. The article describes some technical solutions applied to the cooler design.

Beam focusing correction of electron cooler for COSY is realized with a partial current intake from solenoid's winding using special shunts. Maximal shunting current is 20 A with a voltage drop on solenoid's coil in a range of 15-30 V. The dispersion of shunting current is 100 ppm for 10 hour operation. Energy taken from solenoid's winding recuperates to 100-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz line.
