Abstract

The bypass module was developed for correction of magnetic field in the bending magnet gap through partially taking current away from the coil. The SHUNT-20 bypass module that is presented in this work is able to take a current of up to 20A away from the coil of electromagnet. The device developed allows both recuperation of the taken energy to the main power source of the electromagnet and energy dump to a ballast load. The bypass module is remotely monitored and controlled through a CAN-bus. The SHUNT-20 modules are made by the Switch Mode Technology with application of the up-to-date components in the "Euromechanics" standard.

Abstract

The concentration of molecules of residual gases has the big meaning in the process of acceleration the hydrogen's ions and deuterium's ions in cyclotron, as the intensive recharge of accelerated ions proceeds on these molecules. That is why the big attention was paid to the calculation of vacuum systems on the period of projecting the MCC-30/15 cyclotron. The MCC-30/15 cyclotron enabled to choose the optimal facilities of pumping speed and pumping location. The universal algorithm of calculation the vacuum systems has been developing in NIIEFA during the last few years. This algorithm is based on the method of electro- pneumatic analogies. It was adapted for identification the distribution of pressure the residual gases in vacuum chamber of multisector cyclotron. The algorithm was also realized in program application. The results of works with the developed program application are: the picture of sector's distribution of pressure the residual gases in median plane. On the ground of these results is easy to calculate the losses of accelerated beam on the whole of trajectory. The permissible level of the losses on the molecules of residual gases was accepted 7÷10% from the beam's input current for the MCC-30/15 cyclotron. After the results was clarified that the pumping with the help of two vacuum pumps provides such level of losses. These pumps should have the speed of 4500 l/s (hydrogen). The pumps are located oppositely to each other and attached to the peripheral circular cannel of vacuum chamber.

Abstract

The methods of measuring of DC accelerating voltage within the range of voltages of up to 3 million volts are described. The problems arising at using the voltage resistor dividers are revised. The method of measurement by means of rotor voltmeter being used in ELV type accelerator is discussed. Estimated precisions of accessible measurements are shown. The construction of stabilization and regulation systems in a wide range of accelerated particles energy is studied.

FORMERS OF HIGH VOLTAGE RECTANGULAR IMPULSES FOR POWERFUL MICROWAVE DEVICES

B.Z. Movshevichª

Institute of Applied Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences, Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

Abstract

The simple devices forming high-voltage rectangular pulses with weakly irregular tops, which are based on discharging capacitive energy storage to an active load via a corrective reactive LC-circuit with a built-in damping resistor, are considered. High-voltage pulse generators for high-power microwave devices, which were created at IAP and are operated in the range from single nanoseconds to 100 microseconds with amplitudes up to hundreds of kilovolts, are briefly reviewed.

Abstract

The presented report contains the description of high-voltage source with output voltage up to 60 kV and output current up to 500 mA. The source consist of the converter with IGBT switches, working with a principle of pulse-width modulation on programmed from 15 to 25 kHz frequency, and the high voltage sectioned transformer with the rectifier and additional capacitive filter. The transformer is placed in oil tank with silicon oil. The additional capacitive filter provides low ripple and noise level in working range of output currents. The design of the high-voltage transformer provides preservation of working capacity at voltage up to 100 kV. The stored in transformer and matching circuit energy is less than 15 J at maximum operating voltage 65 kV. The efficiency of system is more than 80% at the nominally output power 30 kW. The controller of the source is developed with DSP and PLM, which allows optimizing operations of the source, optimizing short circuit protection and transient process for load variation. Transient process is less than 6 kV in voltage and the transient process time is less than 5 ms for full load variation from 0 to 500 mA. For control of the source serial CAN-interface is used. The description of the source and the test results are presented.

Abstract

The field topography is measured in the polar system of coordinates using 40 Hall sensors installed on a radial line as detecting elements.

A set of instrumentation includes: an electric drive, automated meters for angles and linear movements built on the basis of a 16-bit absolute encoder; detecting elements for measuring the field in the axial channels of the magnet.

The electronics used for the acquisition and processing of the information comprises: a source of control current for the Hall sensors, a power supply for temperature probes, a multiplexer to alternately connect signal electrodes of all the sensors to a signal meter; an ADC or a computer-controlled voltmeter to measure and record signals of a sensor.

When measuring the field, the attained accuracy was 2∙10-4. The source of the stabilized magnet excitation current installed on our facility allows measurements with an accuracy of 3∙10-4 to be carried out.

Nano Invest, Moscow, Russia

Abstract

Compact solid state modulator is developed, assembled and tested. The modulator is designed for use in compact electron linac RELUS-5 to feed pulse mode magnetron and electron gun.

Main parameters of the modulator are: peak voltage 50 kV, peak current 100 A, pulse length 0÷6 μs, rise and fall time 0.5 μs, output power up to 10 kW.

The whole modulator is located inside the oil tank with overall dimensions 88×84×95 cm.

Special circuit allows to correct the droop of the pulse and to vary the pulse length in wide range.

Modular type design allows to use it as a base for the building of another modulators with higher peak voltage up to 150÷300 kV as well as with higher peak current up to 300 A.

Abstract

VEPP-2000 collider magnet system consists of about 200 low-current corrections of magnetic fields which powered by independent power sources. During long-term operation of collider power sources ageing occurs. This ageing reveals in output current pulsation increasing with average statistical parameters maintaining. The standard power sources automation system does not allow discovering of such malfunctions which may affect on collider operation stability.

Special automation system was worked out for the aims of the pulsation discovering. In oscillographic regime the system e gets measurements of all power sources channels one by one and determines malfunctions automatically carrying out spectrum analysis. The paper describes this technique and measurements results in details.
