Sychevsky Federal State Unitary Enterprise Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus, Saint-Petersburg, Russia Abstract The production of radionuclides for medicine is an important field of application of modern cyclotrons for average energies accelerating light particles (protons and deuterons). A series of compact cyclotrons, such as the CC-12, the CC-18/9 and the MCC-30/15 intended for the production of photon and positron emitters for SPECT and PET diagnostic centers has been designed and manufactured at the D.V. Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus. The cyclotrons ensure the acceleration of negative hydrogen and deuterium ions up to the following energies: the ÑÑ-12 – up to 12 MeV (hydrogen ions); the ÑÑ-18/9 – up to 18 MeV (hydrogen ions) and up to 9 MeV (deuterium ions); the ÌÑÑ-30/15 – variable energy: 18÷30 MeV (hydrogen ions) and 9÷15 MeV (deuterium ions). An external injection system is used in these cyclotrons; the beams of accelerated protons and deuterons are extracted by ion stripping on carbon foils. The main advantage of the aforementioned cyclotrons is an easy access to the devices located inside vacuum chambers by moving apart a part of the magnet to a distance of up to 800 mm along the guides (the median plane of the cyclotron is located vertically). Successful putting into operation of two CC-18/9 cyclotrons, one in Turky, Finland (2005) and the other in St.Petersburg (2006) allows us to realize a serial production of these accelerators intended for use at PET centers. The parameters and characteristics of the main units of the aforementioned accelerators are given. ª – corresponding author |

D.A. Solnyshkovª, G.G. Voronin, A.P. Strokach, V.N. Grigoriev, V.L. Zakharenko, A.V. Morozov, A.I. Solnyshkov Federal State Unitary Enterprise Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus, Saint-Petersburg, Russia Abstract In the last years the interest towards pulse neutron generators is growing due to continuing research in nuclear physics (using flight time methods) and due to the importance of possible applications. Such generators allow to develop highly effective detectors for radioactive materials, but as well for explosives, drugs, and poisons. The Efremov Institute has carried out a series of research and development projects in order to create generators capable of producing neutron fluxes of high intensity in continuous mode, but also capable of operating in pulse mode with a wide range of pulse frequency and repetition rate. ª – corresponding author |

V.M. Zorina, V.A. Zasenko, A.V. Nikiforovsky, A.V. Pozhensky, Yu.I. Stogov, A.P. Strokachª, S.Yu. Udovichenko Federal State Unitary Enterprise Efremov Scientific Research Institute of Electrophysical Apparatus, Saint-Petersburg, Russia Abstract The field topography is measured in the polar system of coordinates using 40 Hall sensors installed on a radial line as detecting elements. A set of instrumentation includes: an electric drive, automated meters for angles and linear movements built on the basis of a 16-bit absolute encoder; detecting elements for measuring the field in the axial channels of the magnet. The electronics used for the acquisition and processing of the information comprises: a source of control current for the Hall sensors, a power supply for temperature probes, a multiplexer to alternately connect signal electrodes of all the sensors to a signal meter; an ADC or a computer-controlled voltmeter to measure and record signals of a sensor. When measuring the field, the attained accuracy was 2∙10-4. The source of the stabilized magnet excitation current installed on our facility allows measurements with an accuracy of 3∙10-4 to be carried out. ª – corresponding author |
