This paper is to evaluate and establish the EtherCAT (Ethernet for Control Automation Technology) solution for digital and analogue I/O and motion control in accelerator applications. Thanks to developments at the Diamond Light Source, EtherCAT is integrated into EPICS with support for most devices of a general data type. Preliminary tests and plans are summarized in this report.
