The long term goal is to transfer to these photocathodes the know-how acquired in the successful development of cesium telluride photocathodes, nowadays used in many leading FEL facilities and accelerator complex. In this paper we present and discuss the results so far obtained on alkali antimonide films grown in our R&D system and the status of the new preparation system specifically designed for these sensitive materials.
