  This ar­ti­cle in­tro­duce a pro­ject for up­grad­ing the con­trol sys­tem of the main booster power sup­plies of ALBA syn­chro­tron. A brief de­scrip­tion of the booster power sup­plies and the mo­ti­va­tion for this up­grade is given. The sev­eral op­tions for the up­grade that are being eval­u­ated are dis­cussed. Dif­fer­ent pos­si­ble ar­chi­tec­tures are also pre­sented. Fi­nally, con­clu­sions about how to face this kind of pro­ject are given.
