Firstly the talk reviewed the status of the build and commissioning activity for the ERL prototype R&D project. After a brief introduction to the project the talk discusses the status of the major technical components and presents the major milestones for future work. The talk then reviews the concept for the advanced light source 4GLS. Looking at the scope of the recent CDR, giving a brief review of the beam transport and layout issues addressed in this report and finished this review by outlining the chosen direction for the RF cavities and the photoinjectors, the two most challenging technical systems.
