Funding: U.S. Department of Energy SBIR Program Constructing and supporting a wide range of RF amplifiers for research accelerators at is costly at present. This is because amplifiers to date have been designed for a single application, and have little commonality in their design and control interfaces. Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) is developing a modular RF amplifier design for a wide range of amplifier requirements. Amplifiers built on this model have common design, controls, and spares, independent of frequency or power. The amplifier design combines a solid-state RF driver, power conditioning, and controls with a high-power vacuum electronic device, giving high performance at a low cost. In this paper, DTI will describe results of the first implementation of the amplifier, which delivers 20 kW CW at 704 MHz. |
