An overview of the 3 GeV Syn­chrotron ra­di­a­tion source, which is under de­sign in Iran will be pre­sent­ed with em­pha­sis on site lo­ca­tion stud­ies, user de­mands and gen­er­al pa­ram­e­ters of the ma­chine. The back­ground to the pro­posed fa­cil­i­ty and dif­fer­ent as­pects of the ma­chine de­sign also is re­port­ed. Op­er­at­ing this third gen­er­a­tion light source with 3 GeV stor­age ring and beam cur­rents of up to 400mA, will re­sult in a source of very in­tense light over a broad range of pho­ton en­er­gies from the IR to hard X-rays to a com­mu­ni­ty that is ex­pect­ed to ex­ceed 500 users a few years after the start of op­er­a­tion in 2015 .
