The physics de­sign of a Photo Fis­sion Ion Source (PFIS) which will be used in a heavy ion ac­cel­er­a­tor is in­tro­duced. The de­sign vari­ables being con­sid­ered are asym­met­ric mag­net­ic field, cool­ing, neu­tron re­flec­tor and mod­u­la­tor (high den­si­ty graphite), UCx tar­get, bremsstrahlung power, mi­crowave power and fis­sion frag­ments (ions). Based on the de­sign stud­ied per­formed by using Monte Carlo codes and nu­cle­ar data, we will pre­sent the re­sults, per­for­mance, op­ti­miza­tion, ion dis­tri­bu­tion, bremsstrahlung power de­pen­dent ra­di­a­tion dis­tri­bu­tion, and tem­per­a­ture dis­tri­bu­tions. Fi­nal­ly we will con­clude the fea­si­bil­i­ty of PFIS.
