If it is not obvious why a postscript
file is so big, try viewing it with a postscript viewer. As the file is
displayed, you will see which parts take a long time to draw: these are the
likely sources of the problem.
If the image is built up from many small points which overlay each other as
is common in the output from tracking programs, the file can take an
extremely long time to display. Since the final image is the result of
overlaying all of these small images a perfectly acceptable result can be
obtained by converting the figure to a bitmap image. This can be done with
several software packages like PhotoShop or Windows7's Snipping Tool and
saving it as a bitmap image (PNG, JPEG or GIF) which will be very much smaller
and will look exactly the same on the screen and on paper. |
